To All Trains

Sorry I haven't posted anything new in the last couple days...I haven't been feeling to well. But between sleeping & getting lost in GTA IV, I've managed to go though some of my old large format negs. I shot this one at Chicago's Union Station in 2004. I absolutely love the lines & the tonal range in this shot.... I hope you enjoy it too. New photos to follow tomorrow...I promise :-)

The detail is great. Makes me wonder how many trains rolled through here since you took the picture.

Great pic. I love how luminous the whites are. The cross-hatching over the words just seems to glow. Plus, all the vertical and horizontal lines are emphasized by the hint of contrast in the crown molding. Like I said, great pic.

This is gorgeous. You certainly should be proud of the beautiful tonality. The brighter light at the bottom creates a heavenly glow on the white horizontal beam. The pattern of the translucent windows brings two associations: the board on Wheel of Fortune and that grid of panels that lights in paterns of colors pared with musical tones in Close Encounters Of the Third Kind.

I've never used a view camera. Why did you open it up to f 32 with such a shallow subject?

Thanks for all of the comments... As far as the f32 thing... View Cameras have a VERY shallow depth of field.... f11 on a view camera is like f5.6 on a 35mm as far as DOF is concerned. Usually when I shoot 4x5 it takes a VERY long time to setup shots...15-20 minutes. This shot was a guerrilla operation, as you are not allowed to shoot in Union Station. The setup, shot & tear down was less then 5 minutes. I used f32 so I didn't have to be so exact with my focus & I could concentrate on the perspective & composition.
